A poll conducted by online dating site Partner4real has confirmed recent research out of the US that 3 minute sex is "adequate", and 7-13 minute sex is ideal. Over 2,000 members were polled, with an overwhelming 65% saying that anything over 13 minutes is too long.
/Dating - Singles News Articles/ - AUSTRALIA, March 14, 2008 - A poll conducted by online dating site Partner4real has confirmed recent research out of the US that 3 minute sex is "adequate", and 7-13 minute sex is ideal.
Over 2,000 members were polled, with an overwhelming 65% saying that anything over 13 minutes is too long, and that 3-7 minutes is the ideal amount of time.
Brett Smith, the Partner4real Dating &; Health Expert, said that these findings reflected what most Australians would already know but would rarely admit too.
"Interestingly, 25% of females said that while 7-13 minutes was ideal, they still expected extended foreplay. This figure dropped to 12% for males who preferred to reduce the amount of pre-sex activity".
The US study, published in the international Journal of Sexual Medicine, is the "first to review what the experts believe is the ideal length of time to have penetrative sex, with the random sample of Americans and Canadians labelling seven to 13 minutes most "desirable".
"Our poll highlights the difference between the commonly held belief that the longer the sex the better, and what really happens in the bedrooms of Australia".
The partner4real poll also found that 72% of males felt that they were expected to perform for longer that 5 minutes, a fact that Smith accepts as more a factor of peer pressure than any pressure from their partner.
"This confirms what I think most of us already know, that one song on a CD was long enough, unless it was Kashmir by Led Zeppelin. Two songs was bordering on tedious", said Smith.
